The dream of every Indian is to visit Maa dhari devi Temple. Why, when, and location history, everything you can get in a single blog. This blog will provide ample information about the Maa dhari devi Temple. All the information I have provided here is collected from various websites, local sources, and my personal experience. Dhari Devi is not just a temple but a place of faith where a person goes with their sorrow and returns happily. That's why the Maa Dhari is also known as the Guardian deity of Uttarakhand.
The dhari devi Temple is located in Kalyvasur, Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River, between Srinagar (Uttarakhand) and Rudraprayag on the Badrinath Highway (NH-7). But do you know that this is not the first location of the temple?
On June 16, 2013, the Dhari Devi Temple was relocated from its original rock perch in the Alaknanda River to a newly constructed site. The reason for the shifting of the Maa Dhari Devi temple was the Srinagar Hydroelectric Project in Uttarakhand. Due to this, the water level in the Alaknanda River started increasing, and the idol of Maa Dhari Devi could have been submerged in the water; hence, the government planned to shift it.
Locals, priests, and devotees had been protesting against the Srinagar Hydroelectric Project for several years because they knew that the original rock-perch temple would be submerged by the reservoir. They strongly believed that it would create huge destruction in Uttarakhand, and Maa Dhari Devi would become angry with all.
But on June 16, 2013, in the evening, Maa Dhari Devi was carried with rituals and mantras by priests and temple authorities and placed in the new temple structure.
As per the locals, priests, and devotees' belief, shifting the temple would cause huge destruction. Within hours of the shifting (night of 16–17 June 2013), the Kedarnath floods struck — more than 6,000 people died in the disaster. A cloudburst and extremely heavy rainfall began in the upper reaches of Kedarnath, Rambara, and the Chorabari Glacier area. It caused massive destruction in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Srinagar.
